Thank you for your wonderful support towards Lamma Fun Day and Lamma8 !
The event was a real success. The beach was full, the live music line up incredible, the volleyball, kids games, auction, fun run, market stalls, delicious food and a well-run bar all contributed to a great day out for everyone. Thanks to the wonderful press coverage received in the lead up to the event and the support from our sponsors and friends we were able to attract a larger crowd than ever before! A special thanks to all our amazing volunteers for making this possible – we had over 150 volunteers throughout the day and you were all incredible!
Together with your support and that of the Lamma community, Lamma Fun Day raised an incredible amount! After all income is received we expected to reach a gross income of more than HK$360,000 this year – which is 57% more than 2015!
This year the event cost HK$121,839 to put on, which is an increase of 22% on 2015’s event cost. This amount includes deliveries of all goods to Lamma. It includes the hiring of sound and lighting equipment, goods and services to run the day – all heavily discounted by sponsors. The cost also includes the set up and dismantle of the entire event, licensing and permits required. After costs, we expect the net income this year will be more than HK$240,807 representing an increase of approximately 83% on 2015!
Lamma Fun Day this year supports our Child Friendly Schools project in Nepal. Almost half of Nepal’s children drop out of school by the time they reach 15 years of age due to poorly trained teachers, a lack of resources and poor infrastructure. When a child drops out of school they become easy targets for exploitation and trafficking. The longer a child stays in school the less likely they are to be tricked and exploited. Our goal is to ensure children are protected, educated and can fight for their rights. The project aims to transform 48 schools in villages near Pokhara by providing teacher trainings, educational materials, family support as well as improved infrastructure such as building toilets, repairing school buildings, building libraries, providing safe playgrounds, equipment and clean drinking water. The HK$240,807 raised at Lamma Fun Day will enable us to transform 6 Primary Schools, benefiting 360 current students and their families and thousands more for future years.
Although it is a drop in the ocean we are glad to be able to prevent even 1 child from going through the horrors of trafficking. We are extremely grateful for your support and we end the year celebrating the lives protected and changed thanks to you. Please do check out some photos of the Lamma Fun Day here and Lamma8 here.
Have a wonderful December and a happy, healthy and peaceful 2017! We hope you will join us again next year!
Have you ever done a scenic run that ended at a music festival and fun day? Sounds like fun?
CWS is bringing you its first ever charity run on Lamma Island. The race will start at Yung Shu Wan's Tai Wan To beach and take you through the famous Lamma Windmill, then onto a trail across the mountain with scenic views of the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. Bringing you the best of Lamma Island, the route will then take you to Sok Kwu Wan before looping back to Tai Wan To beach.
With an elevation gain of over 300 metres covered through this varied 8km route with a mix of concrete and trail; it is fit for any level, beginners can simply opt to hike and the advanced runners can challenge themselves to a fast time!
What is more fun is that it is in conjunction with Lamma Fun Day, the longest running Beach Music Festival raising funds for CWS to provide education and training to disadvantaged children and youth. What better way than to finish a race arriving at an outdoor beach music festival and fun day? A dip in the cool ocean, drinks from the bar, awesome live music on stage and plenty for the kids to do!
