Lamma Fun Day
Thank you for making the 10th Lamma Fun Day a huge success! The day generated a gross income of over HK$197,000 for Child Welfare Scheme Nepal (CWSN). All proceeds go directly to supporting a group of 28 teenagers in their second year of training at the JYOTI Vocational Training Centre. To see the photos, please visit here.

STAR Impact Award

CWS’ long term partner on the ground Child Welfare Scheme Nepal (CWSN) was selected from 174 applicant organizations across South Asia for the Star Impact Award 2009. Launched in 2007 by the
STAR Foundation in UK, this award recognizes one recipient in each category of health, education and protection. The recipients are selected against a range of criteria which reflect the hallmarks of effective practice and demonstrate a positive impact on the lives of the children supported. Along with consultancy support, this award provides US$100,000 which will enable CWSN to continue its work in providing preventive and health education services to disadvantaged communities in Nepal.

Charity Founder Recognized
The 2009 World of Children Health award was awarded to Douglas Maclagan for Founding Child Welfare Scheme (Nepal). Hailed as the "Nobel Prize for Children," the World of Children award honors extraordinary individuals who have made a significant contribution to improve the well being of chidlren. The award includes a cash grant of US$50,000 which will enable CWS to continue its life changing work.

Year in Review
Our project year has recently come to an end and we take this opportunity to provide you with a brief update on CWS. Some highlights over the past year: -

  • Asha Health Care provided primary health care, health promotion, advice and routes for referral to 17,114 disadvantaged children, pregnant women and their communities (through 76,805 treatments).
  • 116 youth benefitted from vocational training at the JYOTI centre. They will graduate as qualified Plumbers, Secretaries, Electricians and Care Givers. Nearly 90% of JYOTI graduates find employment.
  • 733 children attended our 14 Day Care Health Centres which provide Early Childhood Development and health care to children aged 2 to 5 in rural villages.
  • Nearly 124 children attended Child Nepal’s Child Development Centre.
  • 1,372 children benefitted from G4S Holdings sponsored Seto Gurans programmes – a project which fosters an enjoyable and healthy learning environment for children aged 3 to 5.
  • 73 deaf children received computer training. The aim is to create a course that will enable deaf children, who are severely marginalized in Nepal, to receive training and opportunities for employment upon graduation.
  • 8 children who are affected with HIV/AIDS have found a loving, secure home. These children receive medical and educational support but above all they receive the love and care that they deserve.
  • Movenpick Hotels training – 20 marginalised youth received on-the-job training in Pokhara and 8 of them are already employed in hotels in Qatar and Jordan.
